The real keys to happiness, health, and success are found in the commitment to take care of you. You have the power to engage in self-care each day in a way that can relieve stress and even transform your life. You can also more easily manage how you react to your day!

Take a moment right now and ask yourself “where do I feel deprived”? Are you getting enough sleep, are you eating well, and are you hydrated? What about your stress level?  Commit to taking care of yourself so you can feel amazing.

Below are some easy, every-day tools and strategies that you can use to ensure you get it all done and find some time to take care yourself as well!

Create a Schedule

Each day you wake up with and agenda. Sometimes you achieve what you set out to do and other days life gets in the way. A good way to ensure that self-care happens is to create a schedule. It can be flexible but try to create set times for waking and sleeping, exercise, meditation/quiet time, eating, playing, and spending time with your loved ones.

Creating a schedule not only helps you fit more into your day, it reduces stress. Feelings of stress are increased by the perception of change. Creating a schedule helps your body know what to expect. Stress can be decreased greatly by simply taking your breaks and lunch on-time! Your lunch time would also be a great time to do something for you.

Ask for Help

In work and in life we often need help, but we do not ask for it. You can’t possibly do it all alone so you are going to need help now and again. Practice asking for help when you need it. You will not seem incapable in any way. Further, you will empower and recognize others by allowing them to help you. So the next time you feel overwhelmed, ask for help.

Once you have asked for help, make sure you are open to receiving it. Allow them to complete the task you have asked them to do and be grateful! If they did not complete the task correctly then take this opportunity to teach them how to complete the task properly. Not only will they learn something, you will now have someone who can help you again in the future.

Learn to Live in the Now

The point of power is always in the present moment. It is easy to live in the past or worry about the future. When you catch yourself regretting the past or fretting about the future bring your attention back to the present moment. This way you can focus and be more present for what you are doing in the present moment.

If you have future tasks you are worried about, write them down or take care of it if you can. If you are regretting a mistake you made in the past, use that energy to think about how you will correct it. Instead of regretting what occurred, look at the mistake as a learning opportunity. Use your energy to be present for what you can do right now. It will reduce unnecessary stress.

Learn to Let Go

Trying to control everything can cause a lot of stress. We have to learn to let go and realize that the only control we will ever have is how we react to or take care of a situation. A wise person once said that life is only 10 percent of what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it. We cannot control what comes into our lives but we can control our response.

You have the power to respond to each situation in the best way possible. Too often in life, we react before we think things through. The next time something comes up, take a moment and breathe in deeply. Think about the best way you could respond to this situation. What is the best way to resolve it for all involved? This practice allows you to make good decisions quickly.
